Armenian PM interested in CIS integration

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said that the country wanted to stimulate integration on the CIS space. He called Russia a strategic partner of Armenia and a perspective market for business, Moskovskiye Novosti reports.Armenia and Russia had formed a working group to help Armenia join the Customs Union. The prime minister noted that Armenian economy differed from the economy of members of the Customs Union, where energy resources were plentiful. Tariffs in the Customs Union were exceeded the ones in Armenia twice.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said that trade turnover with Iran had increased four-fold in the past 5 years, Ogonyok reports.Sanctions of the UNSC against Iran were not a total blockade and had caused repercussions for the Armenian economy, he noted.Sargsyan said that joint projects of hydro energy continued. A new highway connecting Armenia and Iran was on the way and a railway project was under development, he added.The Armenian president said that relations with Iran developed basing on mutual benefit and respect.

Armenia has the highest economic freedom among CIS countries according to Heritage Foundation

According to research conducted by an American institution, the Heritage Foundation, Armenia has progressed in terms of economic freedom and holds 38th position out of 177 in 2012. The country has been placed ahead of all CIS countries.The level of freedom of the Armenian economy is estimated at 69.4 points.In the European region, consisting of 43 countries, Armenia holds 17th position in terms of economic freedom.

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan has presented the state budget for 2013 today. The document assumes an economic growth rate of 6.2% in 2013, compared with 7% this year.Sargsyan called macroeconomic stability a priority. The IMF and WB reduced forecasts of economic growth, causing reconsiderations in the Armenian economy.The WB will grant Armenia $100 million in financial aid.
